Davies Make His Claim for Ryder Cup

European Tour rookie Rhys Davies may be the player genuinely generating his mark. As excitement in Wales builds towards their first-ever Ryder Cup in October there is an increasing feeling too that there might be a Welshman in it. 

Since the begin of March he possesses had a win, two runners-up finishes - inside hottest of them he lost simply a shot to Luke Donald in Madrid on Sunday - together with a third location. 

If this former British boy champion, 25 last Friday, lifts this week's Wales Open on exactly the same course where that Americans will defend the trophy in four months' time, he might leap to seventh inside points race.

Davies was born in Edinburgh, Scotland. He early started to swing his golf clubs and  played collegiate golf in the United States at East Tennessee State University where he won ten times. He played on two Walker Cup teams (2005 and 2007) before turning pro in 2007. He successfully came through the Asian Tour's qualifying school, allowing him to play on that tour for the 2008 season. Davies won twice on the Challenge Tour in 2009 and finished fourth on the Challenge Tour Rankings to earn his European Tour card for 2010. He won his first European Tour title at the 2010 Trophée Hassan II. Before deciding to make golf his career, Davies played first team cricket for both Glamorgan and Wales. Now he is at the Official World Golf Ranking for Week 22 - 30th.
