----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

No matter how long you play golf, improving your swing should always be one of your goals, let alone the top professional golfers in the world are constantly working on or tinkering with their swings to make them better.

Here are some tips to improving your swing:

Step 1: Have your swing videotaped and analyzed by a local teaching pro. If you have been playing a long time, your swing is probably grooved and you feel quite comfortable with it. However, unless you take a good, hard look at your swing you won't know if you are actually doing the right thing or taking a few shortcuts. A look at the videotape will reveal the details.

Step 2: Listen to the club pro's observations but you should be the final arbiter. Observe if you have been hitting the ball consistently or if your shots tend to hook to the right or block to the left. If you don't consistently hit the ball straight, look at the videotape of your swing and use it to help you figure out why your shots seem to go off course.

Step 3: Ground yourself in the basics of the game. Remember to square your shoulders to your target and have a slow, steady takeaway. Don't overswing when you are at a crucial point in your match. Stay consistent and keep your head down in an attempt to repeat your best swing.

Step 4: Go to the local practice range and hit a bucket of golf balls on days when you are not playing. If you play a round of golf two or three times a week during the summer, go to the driving range at least twice a week on days when you are not playing. This will help your swing stay as consistent as possible.
