If you like playing golf, why not find a golf job on the course? Despite this, you need to know some interview tips in this field.

First, well prepared for your interview. Know what you are going to say for those commonly asked interview questions and questions relevant to the position. Make sure you research the golf equipment you are interviewing at as well as competitors in the neighborhood. Know the other professionals working there and what they have accomplished.

When you come to the interview, dress clean and neat. The golf industry has an emphasis on appearance. Official PGA attire is khaki pants, blue button-down shirt and a navy sport coat. Stay in the blue color scheme for the tie. Wear a brown belt and shoes. For women, wear regular business attire. You should also be clean-shaven and properly groomed.

A key thing to bring with you is a portfolio detailing your previous experience. Pictures of displays you created, a sample of the member newsletter you produced, calligraphy examples, budgets, promotional pieces and so forth. Even if you think it’s irrelevant, it may be something new to the employer. The more you have, the more diverse you will be to the employer. If hired, this could expand your responsibilities.

In most fields, job longevity is very important trait that companies seek in new employees. For the golf business, though, it is just as important to have worked in a few places in a short amount of time. This sounds wrong, but in the golf business there are many different types of facilities beyond golf clubs and they all operate differently. Private courses are different from public courses. Knowing how to run a resort and a semiprivate facility looks good on a resume.

Extra Knowledge
There is another possibility that you are asked some questions that pertain to the facility, but you might not think they pertain to the job. Some of those questions will be about food and beverage experience. If it is a small operation, you may be asked to handle the restaurant as well. Having basic working knowledge of this should be good enough. You may also be asked about the grounds. If it is a frosty morning and the head greens superintendent isn’t around, you should know when it is safe to let the golfers out so they don’t kill the grass. These questions aren’t a given, but some like them may be asked.

Good luck, man!

The popularity of golf has really taken off in recent years. To accommodate the many people who play, take lessons, watch, or read about the sport, golf employment has become much more readily available, in a variety of interesting businesses.

Golf courses: There are many more golf courses in operation today than there was twenty years ago, and every one of them offers dozens of golf employment opportunities. In order to run smoothly, golf courses need groundskeepers to care for the turf, operators and technicians for the discount golf clubs needed on a golf course, instructors to provide training for the golf course’s members, and managers to make sure everything runs smoothly. Additionally, many golf courses have clubhouses and golf stores, both of which require sufficient staff in order to provide members with their conveniences.

Golf resorts: Golfing vacations are becoming more and more popular, as the explosion of golf resorts has indicated. A golf resort requires all of the same staff as a golf course does, except that a golf resort is often bigger and therefore requires more employees. Additionally, a golf resort needs a larger establishment to house their guests, and with a bigger building and more services comes a larger staff: housekeepers, front desk employees, and an expanded kitchen staff all contribute to the success of a golf resort.

Golf schools: As golf becomes more and more popular, more schools are opening every day to teach the sport. These schools are a wonderful source of golf employment for those who would rather teach the sport as the next best thing to playing it themselves.

Golf stores: There are a variety of retail businesses that sell golf equipment, clothing and accessories. Some stores, such as those small stores located in golf course clubhouses, may sell only products that relate to golf. Other stores, such as large sports stores, sell equipment and clothing for a variety of different sports, golf included. Both types of stores offer excellent opportunities for golf employment, as they both have a need for sales associates who know about golf well enough to give their customers the best service possible.
