Tania Elosegui Hoping to Qualify
The field comprises a total of 90 golfers from 27 different countries all of whom will be bidding to earn one of the 14 available places for the final major of the women’s year.
It includes American Jill McGill, who won last year’s Final Qualifying at Fairhaven, plus former LPGA winners such as Julieta Granada, Laura Diaz, Lorie Kane and Louise Friberg. Looking for golf clubs.
Europe is also well represented by the likes of Norway’s Marianne Skarpnord, England’s Felicity Johnson and Rebecca Hudson, and Spain’s Tania Elosegui and Emma Cabrera Bello.
Six members of the 2010 GB & I Curtis Cup team are also teeing it up – Hannah Barwood, Holly Clyburn, Rachel Jennings, Sally Watson and the 15 year-old Maguire twins, Leona and Lisa.
Jennings will be hoping to repeat her feat of qualifying last year but will hope she does so in a slightly less tense manner – at Fairhaven she chipped in for a dramatic eagle on the final hole of regulation play!
Barwood, the 2008 English Women’s champion, and Clyburn, the 2008 English Girls’ champion, have been two of their country’s most successful amateur golfers in recent years. Visit eBayoyo.com for discount golf clubs.
The qualifying will also include Moriya Jutanugarn from Thailand. At 15 years of age and no more than four feet 11 inches tall, she came out top Duke of York Young Champions Trophy last September winning a special Ricoh invite into final qualifying draw.
This year’s Ricoh Women’s British Open has attracted its strongest ever field – with entries closed, all of the World’s Top 20 are in the field including world number one Cristie Kerr, defending champion Catriona Matthew, 2008 champion Jiyai Shin and recent US Women’s Open champion Paula Creamer.
For the first time this year fans will be able to watch the BBC’s extensive coverage of the Ricoh Women’s British Open in HD (high definition) underlining the significance of the Championship in the BBC’s sports portfolio.
